Every day we see and use the results of light-based research and innovation. From LCD computer screens and smartphone cameras, to alternative energy sources and new methods for detecting and treating cancer, optics and photonics fuel some of the most exciting advances of our time.
Founded in 1955 and serving more than 180,000 constituents, SPIE annually organizes and sponsors 25 major technical forums, exhibitions, and education programs in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. SPIE believes that giving back to the community is a core value and in 2011 provided more than $2.4 million in scholarships, grants, and education programs around the world.
